1/4 cup molasses 1/2 cup shortening 3/4 cup dark brown sugar 1 egg 1 cup flour 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon baking soda Preheat the oven to 350° F. Mix the molasses, shortening, brown sugar and egg in a bowl, combining well. Mix the flour, salt and baking soda together, add to the first mixture and blend thoroughly. Arrange by teaspoonfuls on ungreased cookie sheets, about one inch apart and bake 6-8 minutes or until crisp and lightly browned....

buttermilk biscuits

2 cups self-rising flour 1/3 cup Crisco 3/4 c. buttermilk Mix Crisco into flour with fork, then hands. Add buttermilk. Stir with fork until almost blended, adding a little more flour or buttermilk if needed. Turn out onto floured surface, knead a couple of times to finish blending. Bake at 425 or 450° F till brown. cheese cake

Crust: 1 1/2(+) cups [1 package] graham cracker crumbs 1/3 stick melted Oleo 1/4 cup sugar 1 t. cinnamon Mix and press into bottom of spring form pan. Grease bottom only. Filling: 3-8 ounce packages of cream cheese 1 1/2 cups sugar Mix well. Add 4 eggs (one at a time) and 1 teaspoon of vanilla Bake at 350°F for 50 minutes. Shake to see if done in middle. Set 8-10 minutes to cool....

quoddy fish chowder

1/4 pound cubed salt pork (or bacon) 4 cups of diced potatoes 3 pounds of white fish 3 onions, sliced 2 cups whole milk, scalded 1 teaspoon salt 1 tablespoon of butter 1/4 teaspoon of pepper Fry salt pork, remove pork, add onions, potatoes and half the salt.
