1 small box light brown sugar (2 cups)
1 cup granulated sugar
1 1/2 cups shortening or softened margarine
5 eggs
3 cup all purpose flour
1 cup sweet milk*
1/2 t. baking soda
1 t. vanilla
1 cup black walnuts, chopped (dust with flour)
1/2 t. salt
Cream sugars with shortening or margarine. Add the eggs, one egg at a time. In a separate bowl combine flour with salt and baking soda. Alternate adding flour mixture and milk to creamed butter and sugar mixture. Once everything is mixed thoroughly, add vanilla. At the last minute add the walnuts.
Bake at 300° F for 2 hours or at 325° F for 1 1/2 hours.
Frosting:
1 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup milk
1/2 stick of butter
Pour over cake while warm.
