Sunday, February 4th, 2007champagne punch
Sunday, February 4th, 20072 to 3 bottles ginger ale (I usually add 2 and use the 3rd to refill)
2 bottles champagne (add 1 at a time depending on how strong you want the punch and/or the size of the punch bowl; then use the 2nd to refill)
1 small can frozen strawberries
3/4 can (large) crushed pineapple
1 small frozen lemonade
sherbet (I use lemon flavored)
Mix all of the ingredients in a large punch bowl and add ice if desired.
Recipe courtesy of Mary Ellen. She said: I purchased a really nice champagne punch bowl set at an antiques mall and you can find then sold reasonably at estate sales or yard sales. It is worth purchasing as it is hard to get all this liquid in any other size bowl – plus it looks so elegant! Have fun and drink responsibly!!

no movies for you!
Thursday, February 1st, 2007Everywhere else we have lived we were able to check out movies at our local library. Everything from classics to new releases were available for free, paid with tax money, of course. Unfortunately, where we live now, they “…will buy more in the future as budget permits, but they will be mostly educational.” Crapola. So, here’s some alternatives to renting from the local video store.
1. Redbox – Movies for $1/night. Redboxes are located at McDonald’s and grocery stores in several large metropolitan areas. You can either pre-order the movie online and pick it up, or just go to a Redbox and select a movie. Then return to any Redbox you like. It might be worth a try, but the selections are limited to new releases. (Thanks to Gwen for the heads up on this!)
2. Netflix – Here, you order movies online and have them shipped to you. When you are done, mail the movies back. Plans range from $5 – $25/month, depending on how many movies you rent at any given time.
3. Intelliflix – Similar to Netflix. Plans run from $4 – $25/month, with discounts if paying a year in advance.
4. Blockbuster Total Access – Same as above, but you can also rent movies from your local Blockbuster. Plans range from $10 – $18/month. If you rent 3 or more movies a month and live near a Blockbuster, their cheapest plan is probably not a bad deal.
Do you have any experience with any of these services?
