We are considering installing shutters on the front of the house. In order to see what our house would look like with shutters, we have “installed” them on the picture. Please let us know whether we should leave the house as is, or if you like the house with shutters!
Tough call. I think I prefer without, because it appears to make the house look older and more stately somehow. However, I think most people would like it better with shutters. Most people = higher resale.
I’m definitely in the with category. Not sure about color. Black is good with your brick but a deep green may be better.
I like your house with or without shutters – but – if it were my house, I think I’d elect for the shutters. The shutters reminds me of all the cool, old houses in New England and Upstate NY.
I definitely think the house looks better with shutters, but I’m not sure Black is the best color. You might want to think about either red to match the door or white to match the trim. The black looks cool, but I would try other colors too.

Go with the shutters. I’ve always thought it looked “naked” without them. I agree with black not being the best choice perhaps but I have no suggestions for other colors either so…
Definately go for shutters. And I love the black ones because it matches the roof. Don’t do white – they will get ridiculously dirty and you’ll have to bleach them. Plus you already have red, black, white and brick colors on the front of the house – do you REALLY want to add another color? I think it would look like a patchwork quilt if you did. I think you’ve already made the best choice.
I vote for shutters. The look without shutters seems unfinished somehow. I agree with Paul on color options.
OK, I vote for shutters, viewed from this distance. (I think I like the black; and I agree, white would be a mess to keep clean!)
What one doesn’t see in these photos is the way the bricklayer(s) “outlined” each window by altering the brick pattern, and I think that is neat. And, that wouldn’t be visible with shutters.
So, I don’t know!
The whole family says “YES” we think you should have shutters! we dont know what color but we think black is better.
I LOVE THE SHUTTERS. It looks great. I would definitely go for them.
I’m really late on the weigh in but here it is. I like the shutters and think they should be sized to actually cover the windows – not too narrow, not too wide – so they look like they actually could function. Functioning shutters are a sorely missed passive shading/cooling attribute in today’s homes.
